Welcome to the Future of e-Government services….

Enhancing the reach of Government services through mobile and wireless technologies

With the launch of 3rd Generation mobile technologies, the mobile devices are going to be equipped with additional features of larger computing power, transmittal and receipt of content and graphics and communication of information at much higher speeds. This provides an enormous opportunity to the government agencies to explore the ways for enhancing the reach of e-Government services with the use of mobile and wireless technologies. Mobile Government is an idea whose time has come!!

Vikas Kanungo

The inclusion of mobile technologies in the national e-Government strategies is easier for the developing countries as they have just started rolling out the services. In addition to providing government services like grievance redressal, status of pending applications, alerts for filing tax returns, utility payments etc. , innovative use of mobile technologies can be of great use in marketing the e-Government services and collecting feedback from various sections of the society on the government policies.

Mobile Government (m-Government)  is a relatively new phenomenon whose potential is largely unknown and unexplored. There is a need to facilitate policy level discussions for inclusion of mobile services as a part of national strategies on e-Government.

This mission of this initiative is to support and encourage public administrations in the Asia Pacific region to develop and deploy new generation of e-Government services that enable anytime anywhere access of public services to a larger section of society. Though this portal and the deliberations we will hold in very near future, we hope to bring together the community of various stakeholders to work closely for facilitation of Government@24/7.

Once again I would like to appeal everyone to contribute their views and innovative ideas to help prepare the public sector for the future that is inevitable!
