Smart Republic 2015 was hosted in Delhi on January 27-28, 2015

The national conference, organized jointly by The Society for Promotion of e-Governance (SPeG), National Institute for Smart Government and Indian institute of Public Administration saw participation from key ministries of Government of India and senior practitioners from The World Bank.

A National Conference titled “Smart Republic 2015”,  to deliberate on the key challenges in realizing Digital India goals and frameworks for citizen engagement during planning, implementation and monitoring of various initiatives was jointly organized by The Society for Promotion of e-Governance (SPeG), National Institute for Smart Government (NiSG) and Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA). The conference was hosted at Hotel Lalit in New Delhi on January 27-28,2015. Smart Republic  is envisaged as a collaborative forum  to bring together the government practitioners, Global experts in each of the domains, civil society representatives, academia  and industry to deliberate on the best possible frameworks to address these issues through regular interactions and aid the government in achieving their mission of making India a Smart Republic by 2020.

Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Election Commission of India, Department of Social Welfare participated as discussants and majority of government agencies and civil society organizations attended the conference.
The experts from World Bank played a leading role in formulating the agenda for the conference as well as chaired panel discussions on Smart Cities and Open Government Data sessions. The participation of World Bank helped in providing thought leadership on the key issues based upon global best practices in Smart Cities, Open/ Big Data and environment friendly technologies for growth. Mr. Barjor Mehta, Lead Urban Specialist and Mr. Deepak Bhatia, Lead e-Governance specialist chaired the sessions on Strategic Frameworks for Smart Cities & New Media & Technology tools for Smart cities respectively.

Chief Editor of m-Gov World and convener of Smart Republic 2015, Mr. Vikas Kanungo announced that a series of deliberations on the subject of Smart Cities, Open Government Data and Green Growth will be held across the country in the run up to he next edition of Smart Republic. We will be reaching out to countries like Singapore, Japan and Korea for having the practitioners share their learnings with their Indian counterparts, said Mr. Kanungo.
