Indian government considering abolishing roaming charges for mobile users

The move by the ministry of communication will be a great boon to the mobile subscribers.

Newly appointed Union IT and Communications Minister A Raja has said in a statement that they are indeed considering the proposal to abolish domestic roaming charges imposed by mobile phone service providers.

He said while talking to reporters that discussions were still on in this regard. His predecessor Dayanidhi Maran had made a commitment to the people of India that they would go ahead with this plan.

Incidentally Maran had in a statement said that the roaming charges would be waived off as a “gift to the nation” on June 3 . The move is highly opposed by the mobile service providers in the country as it accounts for nearly Rs 4,000 crore in their revenues.
